And the third and last was for piano. The Violin Concerto was written in 19 in Sils-Maria, Switzerland and Paris. At the European premiere it met with a chillier reception, however, and is now little played there, although it remains popular in America.Barber produced three concertos for solo instruments and orchestra. It was a critical and popular success, and Barber won a Pulitzer Prize for it. Vanessa, composed to a libretto by Gian Carlo Menotti (his partner both professionally and personally), premiered at the Metropolitan Opera in New York City. It was the first large-scale American piano work to be premiered by such an internationally renowned pianist.Barber composed three operas. 26 (1949), a piece commissioned by Richard Rodgers and Irving Berlin, was first performed by Vladimir Horowitz. He made a few recordings, including his own Dover Beach. His Piano Sonata, Op. Barber possessed a good baritone voice and, for a while, considered becoming a professional singer. They include a setting of Matthew Arnold's Dover Beach, originally written for string quartet and baritone, the Hermit Songs on anonymous Irish texts of the 8th to 13th centuries, and Knoxville: Summer of 1915, written for the soprano Eleanor Steber and based on an autobiographical text by James Agee, the introductory portion of his novel A Death in the Family. Most of his work is lushly melodic and has often been described as neo-romantic, though some of his later works, notably the Third Essay and the Dance of Vengeance, display a masterful use of percussive effects, modernism, and neo-Stravinskian effects. His songs, accompanied by piano or orchestra, are among the most popular 20th-century songs in the classical repertoire. The following year he wrote his String Quartet in B minor, the second movement of which he would arrange, at Arturo Toscanini's suggestion, for string orchestra as Adagio for Strings, and again for mixed chorus as Agnus Dei.He tended to avoid the experimentalism of some other American composers of his generation, preferring relatively traditional harmonies and forms until late in his life. He studied at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia before becoming a fellow of the American Academy in Rome in 1935. Samuel Osborne Barber (March 9, 1910–January 23, 1981) was an American composer of classical music, best known for his Adagio for Strings. He was born in West Chester, Pennsylvania and began to compose at the age of seven. Dover Beach String Quartet: 2 violins, viola, cello Set of Parts Schirmer. This brooding song for baritone and string quartet, written in the days preceding World War II, might be taken as an attempt to warn, for it sets with almost.

Note also that any keys declared in unversioned DLLs are not guaranteed to exist in future VS versions either. Obviously, such keys will not have any colors in earlier VS versions, but this lets you use them without causing compilation issues (as long as you check the runtime VS version before using them). Note that ThemeResourceKeys are compared by value, so you can use keys from later VS versions without referencing their DLLs by copying the key declaration into your own code. For a complete list, open .0 and .Internal (beware that this is unversioned, so it’s trickier to use in cross-version extensions) in your favorite decompiler, then search for usages of ThemeResourceKey (which can be found in .11.0). ThemeResourceKeys are broken down by category and contained by a number of classes (mostly) in, including EnvironmentColors, CommonControlsColors, BackstageColors, TreeViewColors, StartPageColors, and more (some of these were introduced in VS2013 or Dev14). For compatibility, the older VsColors & VsBrushes still exist in later versions of VS as well, bound to the same colors as the corresponding ThemeResourceKeys in EnvironmentColors. To power this, it replaced this table of theme colors with, which contains a category and an entry name, and indicates whether it’s specifying the foreground or background color for that entry, and whether it refers to a color or a brush. Visual Studio 2012 then greatly expanded the theming system, theming the window chrome and introducing multiple color themes. Visual Studio 2010 had a table of 463 theme colors in the class (and VsBrushes that return brushes instead of colors), containing every color that used by VS2010’s new UI theme. The theming system is built on WPF ResourceDictionaries, which contain reusable global resources such as colors, brushes, and control styles, keyed by strings or objects. Later blog posts will explain how to use VS theme colors & controls in your own VS extensions, and, later, how to use VS theming directly in your own standalone application (which will require an installed copy of VS to run). This blog post will explore how this system is implemented. This let it use WPF’s powerful resources / theming system to style all of the UI elements, which Microsoft took advantage of in VS 2012 to add multiple themes (Light, Dark, and, later, Blue). Visual Studio 2010 rewrote the entire shell UI – the MDI tabs & tool windows, the toolbars, and the menus – in WPF. If you are seeking to browse the contents of these collections, the Wayback Machine is the best first stop. Our collection has grown to the point of having sub-collections for the type of data we acquire. Thanks to the generous providing of disk space by the Internet Archive, multi-terabyte datasets can be made available, as well as in use by the Wayback Machine, providing a path back to lost websites and work. This collection contains the output of many Archive Team projects, both ongoing and completed. The main site for Archive Team is at and contains up to the date information on various projects, manifestos, plans and walkthroughs. Our projects have ranged in size from a single volunteer downloading the data to a small-but-critical site, to over 100 volunteers stepping forward to acquire terabytes of user-created data to save for future generations. Archive Team believes that by duplicated condemned data, the conversation and debate can continue, as well as the richness and insight gained by keeping the materials. With the original point of contention destroyed, the debates would fall to the wayside. History is littered with hundreds of conflicts over the future of a community, group, location or business that were "resolved" when one of the parties stepped ahead and destroyed what was there. The group is 100% composed of volunteers and interested parties, and has expanded into a large amount of related projects for saving online and digital history. Formed in 2009, the Archive Team (not to be confused with the Archive-It Team) is a rogue archivist collective dedicated to saving copies of rapidly dying or deleted websites for the sake of history and digital heritage. Once this button is pressed the circuit loop will break and current flow though the device will become zero. And to drop the current through the loop to zero we will press button B2. Once the current is cutoff the charge stored in the device will dissipate and it will recover to its initial forward blocking state. Now for recovering the SCR to its high resistance state the current flow though the device must be brought to zero for fraction of second. This is due to the characteristics of the device as a SCR. Since the power supply is DC the SCR which was triggered ON will stay in conduction mode even after the gate voltage is removed after the device starts conducting. So when B1 is pressed at a time T1 as shown in graph, SCR starts conducting and a voltage appears across the load as shown in the graph. This state continuous until a voltage pulse is give to the gate of the device and this is possible when button B1 is pressed. Vg =0V), the total drop appears across the device and we have Vload = 0V as shown in graph. So under no trigger to the gate of the SCR (i.e. Also in circuit, device Anode is connected to load and cathode is connected to second end of power source.Īt initial state button B1 will be not pressed and in gate voltage absence SCR will be in non-conductive state. The menu button enables you to easily scan for stations, and if you really need to do a manual scan, that is supported too. When DAB is selected, the radio automatically plays the last DAB station listened to. The rear of the radio has a USB socket, which is provided so that the radio can be upgraded, although for most upgrades, you will not even need this, as you can upgrade over-the-air!.Īlso on the rear of the radio, there are two 3.5mm sockets, one for audio-in, and one for audio-out / headphones. The radio can operate on a network either wired, or wireless (on the rear of the radio, there is an ethernet socket). The radio also has a battery compartment for cable-free operation!. The radio has a 9V input, and comes with a small transformer, moulded into the plug. 5 presets are possible in each of the 5 radio modes, which gives 15 channels in total. There are 5 preset buttons on the top, which are set by holding the appropriate button down for 5 seconds when the station is playing. There is a single on/off push button, and when switched back on, the radio automatically reverts to playing what was on when it was switched off, be it DAB or Internet etc. There is a large rotary control which is used for selection and navigation through the menus. The controls are easy to use, with 5 preset buttons (which double as play/fast forward/rewind/pause when operating as a media player). The display is a large multi-line graphical back-lit LCD display, with white text on a blue background. The radio is a portable stereo radio, which has a good solid construction, with the controls on the top, two speakers in the front which have an excellent output in both volume and frequency response. Well, I was wrong - the Roberts Stream WM202 uses the Frontier Silicon chipset, which beautifully integrates DAB, FM, Media Player and WiFi. I have a few Reciva based radios, and believed that their chipset and software was the only way of listening to Listen Again services without having a PC turned on.
Moving them out of the way to try another set of speakers was out of the question. Once positioned in the room, these speakers were so heavy they never moved for almost three years while serving as my reference speaker system. It not only filled the room with great sound, it physically filled the room with a solid wall of plywood when the wings were rotated out to be flush with the front baffle. The Lowther sound was coupled with solid and deep bass produced by four Eminence Alpha 15A woofers. These large Lowther two way OB speakers lived in my listening room for several years and were praised by everyone who visited to hear the system. My goal was to have the speaker blend into the room and not be so noticeable, it didn't work. Since this was more or less an experiment, I painted the baffles white to match the wall color. The retractable wings allowed me to get behind the speakers to access the wiring and power cords for the active crossover and a pair of power amps. Even with the wings folded back the dipole speakers were still quite large. I built a 60 inch wide open baffle with wings that could be folded back to reduce the front baffle width to a more manageable 24 inches. Shown below is my first Lowther based OB speaker system built in 2005. A few years ago I decided to try this approach and have since built several dipole speaker systems based on this concept. This is an appealing idea since the large excursions required to produce significant bass output are removed from the full range driver. If a passive correction circuit (really a modified BSC circuit with additional midrange attenuation) is acceptable to the designer then a resonant style of enclosure, a bass reflex enclosure or some form of quarter wave enclosure, can be used to produce a balanced SPL response at the expense of some loss of efficiency.Īn alternate full range driver design approach introduces a second driver into the system, a large diameter high efficiency woofer (usually a professional audio model) to produce the demanding bass frequencies allowing the full range driver to cover the remaining majority of the audio spectrum where its real strength lies. Getting a hybrid transmission line / back loaded horn enclosure to perform well is not a trivial task. If the designer is really serious about using only one driver, without any passive circuit elements between the driver and the amplifier, to cover the entire audio spectrum then in most cases a hybrid transmission line / back loaded horn enclosure is required. The biggest challenge faced by full range driver enclosure designers is producing enough bass output to match the rising midrange response typically generated by an efficient full range driver. The cylinder lockup on this revolver is SOLID, with no play whatsoever when the trigger is depressed. Mechanics: The action functions correctly. Overall, this revolver rates in about Excellent condition. Otherwise, there are only light handling marks. The barrel has a minor nick on the left below the rear sight base and the cylinder has a very faint turn line, mostly not through the finish. Overall Condition: This revolver retains about 98% of its metal finish. Overall, the grips are in about Excellent condition.īore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. The grips have only a few scattered minor marks. Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are two-piece checkered walnut with silver-colored Colt medallions at their tops. The rear sight and the top of the top strap have a matte finish to reduce glare. The rear sight is a flat topped square notched target sight that is pinned into the top strap and adjustable for windage and elevation. Sights / Optics: The front sight is a Patridge style blade pinned into a serrated ramped base fixed to the barrel. The left side of the trigger guard is marked with “VP” in a triangle at the front and a “T” at the back. The crane flat is marked “903925″, “F”, “S” and “G”, and the crane is marked “903925”. The sideplate is marked with a “Rampant Colt” logo. The right side of the barrel is marked “COLT’S MFG. Markings: The left side of the barrel is marked “OFFICERS MODEL MATCH / CAL.38 SPECIAL”. I picked it up for cheaper than any new steel Ruger or S&W in the display cases, but for about what an LCR would run me, so I am happy.Action Type: Single Action/Double Action with Swing Out Cylinder The hammer is very BRIGHT also- no blued thumb pad. Also, the trigger and hammer have been jeweled. However, I see no significant wear marks on it, unlike the 60% finish on my OMT.The finish is more of a plum blue than the duo-tone blue on my 1954 3 5 7 or the bluing on my 1958 OMM.It has either been customized and refinished, or is an custom shop version. On the other hand, I'd read here that the proper place to look up the date for an OMM was in the Colt Trooper sequence, from ProofHouse, which puts it at a 1960 manufacturing date. On the one hand, the Colt Firearm Serial Number look up puts it in the Official Police sequence, and puts it at a 1969 date of manufacture. However, I am trying to find out the date it was made, and run into a wide discrepancy in dates. Well, it will once the 30 day consignment wait is over, and they can run the paperwork with the state. 38spl at my LGS that HAD to come home with me. |
